A Warm Welcome As the US Army War College prepares for the start of an exciting new academic year in a new state-of-the-art Root Hall, the US Army War College Press welcomes new—and returning—faculty and staff. We hope your summer activities included the completion of exciting research and writing projects that you would like to move toward publication. The Press publishes a wide range of products, including the quarterly journal Parameters, monographs, collaborative studies, integrated research projects (IRPs), and podcasts, and we would love to see what you have written.

March Madness Usage Reminders Its is the possessive form while “it’s” is a contraction of it is. Example: “The Army explored its options.” Example: “The Army is exploring options, and it’s finding new avenues for growth.” Use an em dash or a pair of em dashes to set off an amplifying or explanatory element. Use the em dash [—] symbol, not 2 hyphens, and do not add additional spaces on either side of the symbol to the terms to be set off:

A comma splice occurs when a comma joins two indepedent clauses without a cordinating conjunction (and, but, because) or by a comma instead of a semicolon:

Back-to-School Style The new academic year is underway! As you head back into the classroom, the USAWC Press would like to help you do so in USAWC Press Style. We use two guides—the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition (CMOS) and our customized Press style guide. We will publish an updated Press style guide later this year. Until the style guide is released, consider these helpful tips when preparing your manuscript submissions.
